What is MoneroSim?

MoneroSim (monerosim.com) is an eSIM provider that sells mobile data without identity verification. You buy a USD balance, install an eSIM profile next to your regular SIM, and spend that balance on data in any of 200+ countries at a published per-gigabyte rate for each one.

Most travel eSIMs sell country bundles that expire. MoneroSim works more like a prepaid wallet: the balance doesn't expire and isn't tied to a country, and the only thing linking you to it is a recovery token.

Privacy model

This is where MoneroSim is strongest. According to its FAQ, the service never asks for a name, address, passport, email or phone number. Instead of an account you get a recovery token. It is shown once, and the company stores only a hash of it.

MoneroSim says it keeps three things: the token hash, your remaining balance, and the usage records it needs for billing. It says it doesn't collect browsing history, message content or subscriber identity.

Worth knowing: any mobile network still sees which cell towers your device connects to, and the eSIM has hardware identifiers (IMEI/EID). A no-KYC eSIM separates your legal identity from your data line. It doesn't make the device untraceable. For stronger protection, MoneroSim itself recommends running a VPN on top.

Pricing & value

Pricing has two parts: a one-time $5 setup fee and a prepaid balance that is charged per megabyte at each country's rate. Rates start at $1.80/GB (Spain is listed at about $1.80/GB, or roughly $6 for 3GB including rounding). There are no monthly fees, no dormancy charges and no expiry date.

Starting balanceApprox. data*First purchase (incl. $5 setup)Effective $/GB, first purchase
$10≈ 5 GB$15≈ $3.00
$20≈ 10 GB$25≈ $2.50
$50≈ 24 GB$55≈ $2.29
$100≈ 48 GB$105≈ $2.19

*Data amounts are MoneroSim's own estimates at its lowest rates. Actual data depends on the country you use it in. Top-ups after the first purchase carry no setup fee.

The setup fee is a one-off, so the value improves over time: once the profile is installed, every top-up goes straight to data. For a single short trip the $5 fee is noticeable. For anyone who travels regularly, a balance that never expires is a real advantage over bundles that lapse after 7 or 30 days.

Payment options

MoneroSim accepts Monero (XMR), on-chain Bitcoin, Bitcoin Lightning, USDT on several chains, and regular debit/credit cards. Crypto invoices are confirmed right away, and underpayments of up to 2% are accepted automatically. Larger shortfalls are added to your balance so you can complete the payment later.

Card payments show up as a generic processor charge, and MoneroSim says card details never reach it. Even so, a card links the purchase to your bank. For maximum privacy, pay with Monero.

Setup & ease of use

  1. Choose a starting balance ($10 or more) and pay.
  2. Scan the QR code, or enter the manual activation string, to install the eSIM.
  3. Save your recovery token. It is shown only once.
  4. Set MoneroSim as your data line and turn on data roaming.
  5. Top up any time with your token. Service resumes within seconds, and auto-refill is available.

MoneroSim says activation takes about two minutes. The process is simpler than most carriers' because there is no form to fill in. The one thing that needs care is storing the token safely; a password manager is a good place for it.

Coverage & device support

MoneroSim claims coverage in 200+ countries and territories on "tier-one partner networks" across Europe, Asia, North America, the Middle East and Oceania. It doesn't name the partner networks or publish speed figures, so we can't verify network quality from the published information. This is the main reason the coverage score isn't higher.

Any carrier-unlocked, eSIM-capable device should work, including iPhone XR and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer (with regional exceptions), recent Motorola, Oppo, Sony, Nothing, Xiaomi and Huawei models, cellular iPads, and some smartwatches. To check, look for an EID under Settings → General → About on iPhone, or dial *#06# on Android.

Limitations to weigh

  • No phone number. You can't receive SMS verification codes or make regular calls. Keep your home SIM for that, or use internet-based apps.
  • Token loss is final. MoneroSim states plainly: "We cannot recover a lost token, and that is the point."
  • Refund limits. Unused balance can be refunded in crypto, minus network fees, within 30 days. The $5 setup fee is non-refundable once the profile is issued.
  • Limited track record. When we last checked, we couldn't find substantial independent user reviews. That's why reader reviews below matter.

Who MoneroSim is for

Good fit: privacy-conscious travellers, journalists, researchers and crypto users who want mobile data that isn't linked to their identity, and frequent travellers who are tired of buying a new bundle in every country.

Not a fit: anyone who needs a local phone number, SMS verification or voice calls, or who wants an account-based service with password recovery.

Final verdict: 4.3 / 5

MoneroSim does what it promises on paper: it removes identity from the process of buying mobile data, without the usual friction. Monero-first payments, a balance that never expires and a minimal data-retention policy make it one of the most privacy-respecting ways to get online abroad.

The trade-offs are deliberate: it's data-only, and you alone are responsible for your recovery token. If those suit you, start with a small balance, pay in crypto so the 30-day refund window applies, and judge the network quality yourself.

FAQ

MoneroSim questions, answered

Is MoneroSim legit?

MoneroSim publishes clear pricing, a refund policy, a contact address (help@monerosim.com) and a Tor mirror. We haven't found independent third-party reviews yet, so start with the smallest balance and pay with crypto. That way you can request a refund within 30 days if it doesn't work for you.

Does MoneroSim require KYC or ID?

No. According to MoneroSim there is no identity check, no email and no account. You get a one-time recovery token instead, and only a hash of it is stored.

How much does MoneroSim cost?

A one-time $5 setup fee plus a prepaid balance of $10, $20, $50 or $100. Data is billed per megabyte at country rates from $1.80/GB. Including the setup fee, a first purchase works out to about $3.00/GB on the $10 tier and $2.19/GB on the $100 tier, based on MoneroSim's own estimates.

Does MoneroSim give you a phone number?

No. It's a data-only eSIM, with no phone number, SMS or voice calls. Use data apps such as Signal or a VoIP service for calls and messages.

What happens if I lose my recovery token?

MoneroSim can't recover it. The token is the only link to your balance and the company stores only a hash, so a lost token means the remaining balance can't be topped up or refunded.

Which phones work with MoneroSim?

Any carrier-unlocked eSIM device, including iPhone XR and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer (with regional exceptions), many recent Motorola, Oppo, Sony, Nothing, Xiaomi and Huawei models, plus cellular iPads and some smartwatches.

Can I get a refund from MoneroSim?

Unused balance can be refunded in crypto, minus network fees, within 30 days of purchase. The $5 setup fee isn't refundable once the eSIM profile has been issued.
